The Knight News-Queen College interview

Elliot Yamin - Spotlight

Published: Sunday, August 30, 2009

During the past three years, Elliott Yamin has established himself as a household name In the fifth season of “American Idol,” Yamin finished third, after Taylor Hicks and Katharine McPhee. His debut album was certified gold, and his single “I'll Wait For You,” was a hit on the Billboard charts.

Yamin performed on Aug. 15 to a packed crowd at Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, appearing with former season seven contestants Brooke White and Michael Johns as part of 102.7 FM's “Fresh In the Park” series.

Yamin's two biggest influences were his mother, Claudette Yamin, who passed away last year, and his mentor, Tony Klieciewicz. Of all of the songs that he has recorded, his favorite is a song called “Someday” from his new album “Fight for Love,” which he wrote in memory of his mother.

Yamin, a Type-1 diabetic, currently serves as a spokesperson for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. He has made the decision “to use 'American Idol' as a vehicle to bring awareness to my cause.” The hardest aspect of his job is keeping his diabetes under control while he is on the road.

His proudest professional moments are his appearances on “American Idol” and his ability “to put out his own music.” Another fond memory is being part of Idol Gives Back, a charitable organization which raises money for underprivileged children around the world. He visited Angola, Africa, for four days with former “American Idol” winner Fantasia Barrino. He found it “both amazing and humbling to experience Angola and be part of a change.” A poignant moment during his visit there came when a baby boy was named “Elliott,” after him, a local tradition wherein babies are named after special visitors.

For Queens College students interested in pursuing careers in the music industry, Yamin recommends that “they work on their craft every day, as often as possible, and do whatever they can to showcase their talent.” Yamin adds that "a lot of things in this business happen by chance, so be ready for it."

Yamin's definition of success is “accomplishing what you set out to do, whether people recognize it or not.” He is aware that he is fortunate to have his fans, who are out there buying his albums. He wishes it were possible “to someday meet each and every one” of his fans.

Thank you so much

Can't keep on Loving You

Request Elliott Yamin's songs local radio stations!!!

Remember to request Elliott's songs on your local radio stations, continue until they play his songs!!!! Don't give up! We need to continue to support Elliott every way possible. We need to promotion Elliott when ever we can. His marketing team doesn't seem to be doing anything that is helping him in anyway. It appears that people are not giving him chance that is so wrong. Most of the radio stations are giving in to the major record labels and not giving independent artist the air play they should. I also believe that Elliott's management team is not marketing right or getting him in front of enough people. He needs to get on the top talk shows like Ellen or Regis etc. so millions of people see and hear him. I think that his management team has been thinking too small, they need to think bigger and better! That is why his album is not doing as well as it should. This new cd is better than the first and should of done better but he is not getting the air play. I don't blame him but his marketing and management teams. They need to smarten up and think out of the box. I really think that he needs to replace them.

Elliott Yamin's Tour is postponed!

Croweb70 from Etrain Forum: Elliott just texted me this message to pass along to you all...

Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond my control, I regret to inform everybody that my tour is being postponed to a date yet to be determined...my apologies to everyone who was looking forward to seeing us this fall!

Thank you so much Croweb70 for letting us all know what is happening. It is so sad that Elliott's tour is postponed indefinitely. We need to help him get more airplay and support him.

Do not use Misiqtone Music to vote for Elliott

I thought that Musiqtone Music was different but it was not. They said that they were voter driven site which was a lie. Elliott was #1 for awhile and then suddenly without warning they took him off their list just like Vh1. I have boycotted Vh1 and now I will be boycotting this site. Elliott is too good for these sites.
